There is apparently a new site out there offering information about the Ash’ari sect.  Those guys are somewhat active in giving their da’wah on the internet, especially in the English language where they are more effective.
As always, my postion is that the key to knowledge of the Islamic religion and for the observant Muslim to [...]

Perusing some of the latest writeups on the situation with Iran’s elections, I came across some comments that the Obama administration was hoping for something with these elections.  Like the recent elections in Lebanon that saw the rise of a pro-Western party, the American regime was hoping for election results in Iran that would also [...]

There is a saying that my friends offer hear from me when I speak on affairs of the Muslim world.  It is something that I say often and that I stand by unflinchingly.  That saying is that, as Muslims, we are the stupidest people in the world.  There are many reasons and that is an [...]

Answer to a young believer on choosing Islaam.

Posted on 17 October, 2008. Filed under: Stream of Conscientiousness | Tags: , , , , , , , , |

I used to be an atheist, I completely denied the existence of a higher power. Which is ironic considering even in the West which is secular, the majority of scientists affirm the existence of the creator. It’s just a noisy minority that influences a few people like they did me.
Anyway, my father was an engineering [...]

“How do you feel about Turkey?”

Posted on 28 September, 2008. Filed under: Stream of Conscientiousness | Tags: , , , |

I believe that Imaam Ibn Qudaamah rahimahullaah wrote of the criteria for an Islaamic state.
The two, if I remember correctly, are:
1. That at least 50% of the people are Muslim, and/or
2. That the ruler is a Muslim person.
As for the state of Turkey, from what I know just from reading – I have never visited [...]

Response to a young believer on anger toward the umara.

Posted on 28 September, 2008. Filed under: Stream of Conscientiousness | Tags: , , , , , , |

I understand your anger. This is a feeling, an emotion. We all can look at the ahaadeeth about not rebelling against the rulers, obeying the rulers, supporting them, etc. and objectively understand that this is the Sunnah and this is truth.
But all of us also have out feelings. We see these images of suffering [...]

Answer to a young believer on scientists and conversion to Islaam.

Posted on 28 September, 2008. Filed under: Stream of Conscientiousness | Tags: , , , , |

There are a large number who have converted, yes, and many because of the science in Islaam.
As a former atheist myself, the scientific information contained in the Qur’aan was part of why I accepted Islaam six years ago. That’s just me though, and i’m nobody; guys like Keith Moore on the otherhand, who is an [...]

“Why are the masaajid packed on the 27th?”

Posted on 28 September, 2008. Filed under: Stream of Conscientiousness | Tags: , , , |

Unfortunately as a whole, our ummah could use work on its akhlaq (manners).
In the United States I have been to so many masaajid where people do not greet one another, where the wudu area is flooded with stinky water, where the bathrooms are gross, where people allow their children to run around like brats and [...]
